vBulletin Spam from Interent Marketers

Forums are a great way for members who share similar interests and concerns to meet up and share their experiences, support each other and get help for any problems that they may have. Most forums allow members to have signature links or a link to their website. This is so that members posts can be put into context and other members can find out more about that member. Because links to websites are an important part of the ranking of websites, this means that forums are spammed heavily by unethical internet marketers (they don’t think it’s unethical, but it is) purely for the reason to build links to their websites and not be useful member of the community. vBulletin is one of the more popular software used for forums and vBulletin spam is a big problem. There are so many strategies and plugins that forum administrators have to put in place to stop those who want to do nothing more than add a link to their own websites. More than half of the new members on some forums are these spammers. Internet marketers do not like being called spammers, but they are. If what they are doing is not spamming, then why are forum admins going to such great lengths to stop them. Fortunately most forum profile links are increasingly being nofollow’d, so they are not valuable as links to websites.
