The Cluffy Wedge

Functional hallux limitus is a common problem of the big toe joint of the foot. It is called functional as it only ever happens when we are functioning and is a limitation (limitus) of motion of that joint (hallux is the technical name for the big toe). There are many ways to treat this and one way is with a cluffy wedge. The cluffy wedge is the trademarked name for padding that goes under the hallux or big toe to hold the joint in a slightly plantarflexed position. The use of the Cluffy wedge or similar padding is used to treat problems of the hallux limitus or problems with the function of the windlass mechanism. The Cluffy Wedge as a trademarked item was first described by Dr James Clough a podiatrists in the USA. The cluffy wedge is widely used clinically and is available at the retail level. There are a number of training videos in the use of the cluffy wedge.
