Cuboid Syndrome

On the outside of the foot is a small bone called the cuboid. It’s is a very small bone, but it is an extremely important one as a painful condition known as cuboid syndrome can affect it. Cuboid syndrome is an overuse injury in athletes and occurs when the bone is not stable. As a tendon passes around the bone, if the bone is not stable, the tendon will move the bone straining the joints around it creating the cuboid syndrome. The symptoms of cuboid syndrome usually start of as a dull aches down the middle of the outside of the foot. After that the pain progresses to interfere with the athletes training and competition. The treatment of cuboid syndrome is to use strapping and foot orthotics to help make that part of the foot more stable. A cuboid manipulation is also useful.
